OptMed is developing a family of next-generation biosurgical adhesives based on a unique, proprietary chemistry—methylidene malonate—and an innovative delivery system.

science

Methylidene malonate chemistry is distinctive compared to currently marketed tissue adhesives for the topical approximation of skin, which are all based on cyanoacrylate chemistry. Methylidene malonate chemistry yields safe degradation products, such as glycolic acid and ethanol, enabling the development of new biomedical product applications. It was originally developed by Laboratoires UPSA, a French pharmaceutical company, as a biocompatible polymer designed for drug delivery use.
